Pyramid 'g' string question.

Hello people :wavey: & greetings,

I wonder if any one can help with this question I have?.

I am giving the high 'f' tuning a go and am interested in trying a wound 'g' string.
I would like to know what pyramid custom gauge I should order which would be the wound equivalent of a pyramid 0.825 plain nylon 'g' string.
I imagine it will be very thin but dont know the actual size.
I do not want to increase the tension above that of the 0.825 string. My oud string length is 61.5cm.

1007,1006 and 906 are the 3 strings gauge for a wound g from pyramid, the 906 the smallest gauge. I guess the 1006 should work for you, otherwise try the 906.

Mike and Usta Faruk say the same as Souheil. I never actually did switch as I actually quite like my Aquilas and they don't do wound strings in such a small gauge. Let us know what you think of the F tuning. I've used it since I started but am really starting to wonder whether I wouldn't get on better with C. I miss being able to reinforce notes with an octave pedal.

My my, June is nearly upon us. We'll have to revive that other thread soon. I have it in mind but am a bit busy at the moment - will do in a couple of weeks.

Hi Charlie,

At 61.5 cm, a plain nylon of .825 has a tension of 33.2 N when tuned to g.

If you want the exact same tension on a wound string, get 1013Al (Aluminum Wound) from Pyramid.

To make your life easier here is the tension of similar strings from Pyramid all at the g note and similar tension of a nylon string between brackets:

905 = 31.5 N ( Nylon .800)
1013Al = 33.3 N ( Nylon .825 )
1014Al = 35 N (
906M (Brass) = 35.1 N ( Nylon .850 )
1015Al = 36 N
906 = 37.5 N (this is the one mentioned by Souheil, same tension of .875 Nylon)
1006M (Brass) = 39 N
1006 = 41 N ( Almost like Nylon .900)
10065 = 43 N
9075 = 44.5 N (Almost like Nylon .925)
1007 = 48 N (Nylon .975)

Souheil ... Hi :) 906 is not the smallest wound gauge Pyramid makes.. they have 809AL .. Which basically can not be seen with the naked eye... lol :)
You can try ALL oud strings wound.. I've done it before. On 58.5 cm string.. c would be 1011Al, and the f would be 809Al with a tension of 49 N.

Thank you all so much and Alioud your list is extremely helpful, I was also reminded how naturally musical the F C d g c f tuning can be after listening to your fine ouds. Hey Kat, I also thought 906 was the thinnest. Dave, this wont be the first time I've tried the High f but I am very happy with the tuning I've mentioned above, even as 5 course without the high f. Roll on June 20th. Thanks again :bowdown:

Dear Charlie,

the corresponding string for a Pyramid Nylon 0,825 is between a 905 and a 906 string.

For comparing all kind of strings I refer you to my corversion table which you will find on my website for download.

Hi people!
I have a question, and maybe somebody here (I think especially about Matthias or Alioud) can answer me: with an oud of 58.5 cm, which pyramid lute string are recommended for the high c and g courses? With a quite medium high tension preferably.
