oud or guitar by Alexandris Jannis 'sound samples'

Alexandris Jannis - 5-12-2009 at 09:34 AM

ougui is a special order i came up with!
Georgalis Ilias want to experiment with a fretless instrument and his first idea was to order an oud with a quitar neck having 6 single strings like the classical guitar.
The idea and the making of that particular instrument was not very easy, because i had to deside about the design and the sound!
After 4 months of plans, ideas and drawings i think that the result came over my expectations!!

wow- this is really cool Alexandris!
I've seen a fretless guitar before and with an oud shaped bowl, but you seem to have the balance just right. Great concept and it sounds excellent. May I ask, is it possible to put a capo on this ougui like on a guitar, and what string scale did you use? regards, MW

It's hard to believe but your instrument captures the essence of both instruments very nicely.

Thank you all for your nice comments.

Hey Jannis, it's me again!!
I cannot forget the day you gave me this magnificent instrument the '' ougui'' !!! to write these 2 sound samples!!! I fell in love with it!!! I am still thinking a fantastic scenario that if i had to choose by force only one instrument to play, between the guitar and the oud, i would surely choose the ''ougui'' !! For me that my music background has the guitar as the basic instrument i believe that 'ougui', is the perfect instrument, that allows me to have ''two in one'' with no restrictions 'both the guitar and the oud'!!! Thank you for making me ''the first ougui player'' with these 2 recording samples :))

Be well and always inspired!!!

Friendly,
Dimitris
