Thanks Guys .I heard alot about Faruk's work, I had so many recomendations from people in this forum ( my thanks to Jassim, JT, JasonM and Greg for their help)and others , I decided to go for his oud.i have asked for a bassy warm rich sound and I heard that Usta faruk is designing ouds per your required spec, so no doubt I will get what i asked for,i Have sent him a detailed spec in terms of sound quality and the oud layout, so far everything is going as planned, he gave me a 2 month lead time and i am sure i will get it before that. will be finished sound board ,brown rossets and pick guard,
I wil post detailed specification and more photos very soon, the sound sample wont be me playing so relax.
Leon, I live in Bushey , Herts , I am hoping to make it to the oud gathering in June with My Teacher( i am Still beginner and taking occasional lessons when i find time) Ehsan Emam, hopefully will see you guys there, if not we will arrange some time to meet up and will benefit from your playing skills.
rgards

FANTASTIC OUD.
could you please inform us what is the wood of the bowl???

Luttgutt - 5-29-2009 at 05:08 PM

This is one beautifully looking oud!!
Congratulations hama.

I am guessing the wood on the bowl is Cocobolo!

farukturunz - 5-30-2009 at 04:11 AM

Dear theodoropoulos and luttgutt,

I made the bowl of this oud from kingwood (Dalbergia cearensis)

You can check for the specifications of that wood and the price ranges at:

Kind regards

theodoropoulos - 5-30-2009 at 07:22 AM

dear Mr Faruk, this is an fantastic wood and the most astonishing is the use in ribs....In one rib the grain is parrallel to the symmetric axis ,the next is vertical to this axis....which is difficultfor a rib to be bent without breaking...
excellent Mr Faruk!!
piece of art....

Hi All
Please find the sound sample of the great oud built by master Faruk
the oud is played by a young kurdish oudist and a friend who lives in London, hope you enjoy it
the purpose of the video is to demonstrate the sound sample of teh oud rather than style and technique

Wow, really nice sound!

francis - 8-5-2009 at 10:01 AM

Yes, really amazing sound......and the oud is just new!
Tomorows will be pleasant, to my opinion!

Great sound - I like your friend's playing too, that's passionate phrasing happening there and it suits the oud I think. I'd love to meet you all and should have time this summer, when are you back from Istanbul?

I'd love to hear how the sound and feel of the oud compares with my Tasos Theodorakis oud which is also 'Turkish' style.

Leon:)

As said before, breathtaking!

Master Faruk coming to the States in October

shareen - 8-5-2009 at 06:08 PM

I am thrilled to announce that I have helped make a connection for Master Faruk to attend a prestigious luthier showcase in Woodstock, NY, at the end of October. If you want one of his awesome ouds, you will have the opportunity to hear one, try one and order one right there, and speak to the Master himself in person about your needs. Ara Dinkjian will be performing a concert, will be giving a workshop/master class in Middle Eastern music and will hopefully be demoing Master Faruk's ouds. . I am also told by Master Faruk that a colleague of his who is a world class balglama builder Suleyman Asian, will also be attending. This will be a world class showcase of some of the finest stinnged instrument builders in the world.
