Hi everyone,
Some of you might have noticed that I havent been able to contribute as usual to the forum. The reason is that I have just got maried and I am
enjoying the honeymoon in the nicest country I have ever been to.
I have spent 2 days in athens and a week in Mykonos. Today I am here in Parikia on Paros Island and I leave for Santorini tomorrow.
I will be back in Athens on the 21st for a day. I am staying at the Metropolitan hotel down Sygrou ave.
are there any of our Greek forum members willing to meet me and to help me shop for musical instruments? I wouldnt mind leaving with a nice oud but I
am looking for a bouzouki since I am planning on learning.
cheers!
I will check the thread in a bit. For those who you are intersted in meeting up please u2u me your coordinates and we will conect.

Congatulations!
Ahhhhhhhhh...the Greek Islands...where I went for my honeymoon! GREAT memories!!!!!
If I remember correctly, I found one pretty good CD shop in Santorini on the main street, but don't remember if it was in Thira (more likely) or Oia
(where I spent most of my time).
Not that you will have tons of time in Athens, but here are some ideas of music-related things to see (mostly from my 2003 files):
- Museum of Popular Instruments - Research Centre for Ethnomusicology http://www.greece-museums.com/museum/46/ (I didn't manage to hit this museum myself.)
- Pandora Music Shop: Instruments and some good CDs - Mavromihali 51, Exarchia - 210 361 9924
- Monastiraki Flea Market: http://www.athensguide.com/monastiraki.html (A fun flea market with a few good CD shops. If memory serves, there is a pretty good musical
instrument store [no good ouds/outi though] run by the friendly Armenian guy was there too -- he also gave us a great restaurant recommendation)
- To Baraki tou Vassili: World music club in Athens:
To Baraki Tou Vassili (Vassilis' Bar)
Athens
Address: 3 Didotou St., Athens (Kolonaki)
Telephone: +30-210-3623625
Web Page: http://www.tobaraki.gr/
They have had some great concerts, like Greek santouri w/Iranian santour, but may close for the Summer (?).
- Metropolis music store near Omonia Square: http://www.igougo.com/attractions-reviews-b50681-Athens-Metropolis_... ...or...
- Metropolis music store in Athens airport: If all else fails, grab a few CDs on your way out!
Have fun!

if you are looking for professional quality bouzoukis and ouds i would stay away from the music stores (mostly overpriced tourist junk) and visit
Dimitris Rapakousios Shop. he is right in central athens near the metro stop evangelismos,,,,he iis a great person as well as an amazing luthier,, {
he also speaks english}...you can find more info on the web at dimitrisouds.com or send me a u2u and I can give you any info that you might need...all

Many congratulations Samir!
But I agree with Awad. Don't get into trouble on day 1. You'll have plenty of time later to bore her with oud talk and she'll have plenty of time to
complain!
Ararat66 - 6-17-2009 at 05:55 AM
Hey Samir
Get yourself down to Dimitris' - if you can talk yourself into that then your marriage will last forever
BTW
does your wife play oud ???
Best wishes to you both

Congratulations Samir! It's wonderful news, I hope you enjoy every moment of your marriage and your trip!
I think our friend Spyros knows of a good bouzouki maker that has great prices in the Athens area. You should get in touch with him and find out
where this maker is. Apparently his instruments are great and very well priced.
Enjoy!
