Ethnomusicology Research on ArabMusicians

Zefira - 7-20-2009 at 03:43 AM

Hello, everyone--

Marhaba. I am a restaurant owner and musician (flute and percussion) in DC area working on a master's in ethnomusicology at Univ. of MD. I am looking to connect with Arab and Arab-American Musicians who play occasionally or often in the D.C. metro area. Basically, I would like to interview them to discuss how their identity is negotiated through performance of Arabic music. Attached are the questions I'll be asking. Any participants would be given credit and access to my thesis upon completion. You can contact me through this forum or via email at zefira19@yahoo.com

Hello again--

I noticed there have been lots of views and 16 downloads of my questions, but no responses yet....
If there is any person of Arab descent within 500 miles of the Washington, D.C. area who plays any instrument within
Arabic music, I'll be interested in interviewing him/ her.

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon--

Zefira, may I suggest that you post your query on the "arabny" listserv:

arabny@yahoogroups.com

You have to be a member to post, but as you already have a yahoo address, that should be easy. There are quite a few Arab musicians on the list, many of whom are community/academically oriented enough to be likely interested in your research.

There is also the "Arabic Music Retreat" group, which is for items pertaining to Simon Shaheen's annual retreat as well as items of interest to the Arabic music community. A number of the members are highly respected ethnomusicologists and performers.
