Just seen this on you tube, its the first half that blew me away - what is the instrument, looks like a tar, brilliant sound.

It is tar. There are regional varients in Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as parts of Turkiye

What an amazing player, brilliant risha technique, very similar to oud in the wrist but obviously haeld quite differently. Love the music, I find this part of the world really intriguing, not just because of past familly history but also the cultural circles that overlap the 'official' country boundaries.

It seems to produce very vibrant, inventive and passionate cultural expressions.

I'll keep looking
