I agree with spyros that at first this oud looks like Jamil George in terms of size and ornamented face, but there is something about the patterns and the inlays, specially the pickguard and the "Rays" going from the hole, I'd say it is more "Eastern".
(Jamil George was also originally syrian)
My guess would go for Jamil Kandalaft, Aleppo - Syria in the 1960s.

I must say the "raqmah" bothered me too, because it's not a usual Jamil Georges, that's why I said "if I had to guess".

Can't you look inside through the rosette ?

It looks to me that the decoration is not original, but made later!
Am I the only one??

Jamil Georges

The "raqmah" could be a later addition, no doubt.

The "rays" going back from the rosette are typical Jamil Georges.

See pictures below of some "legitimate" Georges ouds.

Good point Spyros, you're probably right.
and I agree that this oud may have gone through some serious work, look at the fingerboard, this oud has been played a lot and probably restored more than once.

I have seen only one Jamil Kandalaft oud, and this one looked like "family", I remember it had those "skewed" pearl/wood pattern around the soundboard and this pickguard still look more Syrian to me, it may be a later addition as the area around suggests.

Ok, we love this game but I think that Veysel or Dr Cengiz should now give us more pieces of the puzzle, some other photos, may be a part of the label or what remains of it.
