Hi all... I just installed Perfection Pegs (geared peg tuners) on one of my cheap ouds and really love them... so now I want to add them to my other
ouds... the problem is that one of the ouds peg holes are to wide... any tips on how I can re-size them to accommodate the smaller diameter of the
Perfection Pegs?
Thanks for your help in advance http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/images/smilies/notworthy.gif

You can install bushings - Drill out the hole (both sides of course) to a larger size and taper ream them. Install tapered plugs of the same wood and
grain direction as the peg wall. After the plug glue is cured, drill and ream them to the smaller size. You'll need two reamers, one large one for
the bushings, and a standard peg reamer for the final hole. The trick is making the tapered plugs.
Personally I think making new peg box walls is easier and quicker.

See the step by step procedure in "Restoration of Egyptian Oud - Part 2" on page 8 of 'Ouds Project Forum'.
I used a standard 1:30 taper violin peg reamer for cutting both the plug and peg holes and a 'Lee Valley' 3/8 taper plug cutter to make the plugs.
