I'd have to add: In the running for: "most overvalued garbage in history prize!!!!" It's also a relief to know: Nut made of At least 10000 years old Siberian Mammoth Ivory. At least !!

Cordially...PaulO

You didn't understand : When you play on this oud gold and jewels flow on the floor like in an Arabic tale, I forgot the Mammoth Ivory ! But no one note rises in the air... And I'm happy for my ears :D

Ah yes, the emirates and the exclusive luxury goods market, where the price-demand curves work backwards. The more you charge the more people want it.

PaulO: "At least 10000 years old Siberian Mammoth Ivory. At least !!" In the unlikely event that anyone actually tries to play this monstrosity, it might actually have a positive impact on the tone. Not nearly enough to counter the gold inlay on the fingerboard, the gold leaf on the back, the gems in the rosette, or the weight of the solid ebony neck though.

DaveH - 9-25-2009 at 01:47 AM

Oh, and I forgot about the tarmac on the soundboard.

SamirCanada - 9-25-2009 at 03:53 AM

Somebody took this instrument to: Pimp my oud!

honestly the emirates is rediculous....

My native Lebanon will sadly have to reliquish the title of 'Most shallow country' to the UAE for sure..

GeorgeK - 9-25-2009 at 05:52 AM

This oud could pay my mortgage. Scratch that, for this price I'd live in it.

A mammoth ivory nut is very good choice, at least 25$ : http://gregboyd.com/accessory_detail.html?accessory_key=432

paulO - 9-25-2009 at 12:12 PM

Okay...at first I was just kidding about the mammoth ivory nut's preported age -- an ivory nut (of any age) -- definitley has an effect on the tone. Thanks for the link Michael -- now I definitley want one.

Regards...PaulO

i've found sambar antler (Indian stag, also now coming from Mongolia) a good bit harder than ivory and bone.
poverty level at $420,000 [annually???]
Belgian polish?
shallowest country ( what about the Danakil depression in Ethiopia)
