Hello everyone, I would like to share with you the building process of 4 OUDs.
The first one, the bowl is already finished today: Moroccan walnut, I have enouph to build 5 ouds. very rare to find good quality.
the 2nd: Moroccan Walnut\ indian Rosewood
the 3rd: Indian Rosewood with nice patterns
and the 4th, the one I will keep for myself I hope, Santos Rosewood, a beautiful wood, specialy when finished with shellac (a bit expensive).
Any way I have sliced the ribs myself to 2.5mm and Planned them to 2.2mm with the Proxxon DH40 planner(a must have tool)
I will post pictures from time to time.

Rosewood bowl : tracing the shape of the ribs and bending.
the ribs are 38,5 cm. long before bending.
When bending the ribs, they should have 99% the same shape at the end, this will make the joining easy and accurate without much pression. using a
masking tape should be enouph to join them together.
After fitting the first 5 ribs, The bowl start to have a nice shape.

Thank you Michael,
Well this is how far I'm, going very slow and taking care of all the details.
Applying orginal authentic line oil (italien receipt) and waiting 24 hours to cure. the color of the wood remains original and the patterns start to
come out.
The pegbox are also finished. hopefully by the end of the week if times allow, the ouds will be ready so I can start another two.

Wow man..the finish came out great...it's got that 10 miles of depth going on. The grain on the back is amazing, but the back of the pegbox looks
fantastic too ! Looking forward to the walnut !!

It's always difficult to check out the sound characteristics of an instrument from a video or MP3 file, but this first impression is veeery good for
my taste on both ouds.
PS: What strings did you use? Pyramid?Sazi - 11-3-2009 at 04:11 AM
Mmmm, nice fresh ouds!
You must be pretty happy with them?
Congratulations. (you made them look so easy too!)

sabbassi - 11-3-2009 at 04:20 AM
The strings are normal Dáddario. DO
I guess Pyramid strings will produce more beautiful sound than the Daddario.
Thanks Sazi, these ouds are new. they need a while to openup. from any experienced oud makers, they can tell you that every oud need at least 4
seasons (winter, autumn...)to come alive.Aymara - 11-3-2009 at 04:27 AM

Maybe, but string choice is a matter of taste, I think. Fact is, both ouds have a clean beautiful sound and look very good. And as it seems, Sazi is
impressed too.Sazi - 11-3-2009 at 04:39 AM
Very impressed! especially since I do know that they take time to mature to their
best sound, if they sound that good new with so-so strings, imagine what they will sound like in a couple of years!
