looking for kanun player near Montréal

Franck - 9-28-2009 at 10:10 AM

Hi, I'm looking for an intermediate kanun player near Montréal (no farther than an hour ride) to start a project of oriental music (mostly Turkish influenced). I am a composer and wish to form an ensemble that would include ud (myself), ney, kanun, percussion, and possibly violin (keman). Both traditional and original music are to be played (including some arabic music). I've been playing ud for 5 years now so, I'm looking for intermediate players to evolve with (any master would be out of synchronicity). The project is in its beginnings, it is not ready for professional performance yet, it is a work in progress so I need musicians that are willing to give some of their time and goodwill to make it happen. I've attached one of my compositions so you can hear my work, it is from my medieval music ensemble Skarazula, from our second album Litha, enjoy. Sorry for the terrible quality, 1MB is really low even for a MP3.

Thank you,

François Rainville

talk to Nizar Tabsharani of back strings. He is on a next level muscially and he is a master but he might know other intermediate players.

Hello!,

First of all best of luck finding people (how many are u?)

To tell you the truth concerning Qanoun I dont think Nizar might know simple because I called him two months back concerning the same topic.

For 2-3 months I have been trying to set up an ensemble(only for jammin) and not for money. And its hard finding decent musicians who play arabic and want to do it for fun and not to get paid..

In the same spirit, if anyone knows of intermediate violin players or riq/daff or a EXTRA qanoun player(I guess Franck gets dibbs on the first one) let me know.

Oh yeah in Montreal.

Thanks Fhalaw, I'll tell a violinist that I know (the one I would like to recruit) about you, he's the kind of musician who likes to try different things, maybe it'll work out for you.
