Hey Alec, do a search on Palmyrami in the forum and you'll be able to see lots... Basically, folks have had mixed reviews. I have purchased 2 ouds
from them with no hassles. However, others have had poor experiances with them. I think the main issue is if you're asking them to ship outside of
the US. Within the US, I haven't heard of many problems....

Personally, I love Sukar ouds... they're really deep and bassy.... I just traded my model 1 sukar for an F-Style Mandolin, but I wouldn't have done
it if I didn't have another Sukar oud to play... For more formal settings I have a REALLY nice Shehata oud... but for day to day, sitting on the
porch and playing, I play my Sukar oud....

Alec, you can do no better than a Sukar unless you spend really big bucks, they are consistently good, and Palmyrami is a good source for Sukars in
the US, if you are well-informed. So read up!
Yo, Chris, by "formal setting" you mean among conoisseurs or among turkeys?
I got a very decorated "mosaic" oud that's probably 20 years old, and turkeys always (wrongly) oohh and aah over it, and so for playing in front of
people it's ideal, even though "experts" (just as wrongly) assume it's a $100 Escher-print-contact-paper e-bay oud.
I think it's what they mean by a "conversation piece" 
So which "crowd" gets your Shehata?

I agree, for the $$$ you really can't do better than a Sukar Oud...
Hey man, I'm afraid to play for conoisseurs... they would think I'm the Turkey
Shehata oud is mostly for the Belly Dancers (playing through an amp) -- In truth, it's just too easy to play... the action is low and the neck is just
right... so I practice on the Sukar a lot and then when I pick up the Shehata it's just that little bit easier.... Also, I like the Sukar better for
playing accoustic since it's WAAAAYYY louder... Also, the thing is a tank and I'm a lot less worried about bumping into stuff -- so it has pretty
much become my default practice oud....
