My Brand New Abu El Alaa Oud

Alf Mabrouk Hussam...very nice oud.
The curved end of the bowel is pretty much following the Nahhat style which is quite unique.
Until i have seen your oud i hadn't seen anyone making the curved end of the bowel like the Nahhat's.
What kind of wood used in it?

Sameer Makhoul, my Oud teacher had this 6 minute Taqseem during the lesson. Sorry for the low recording quality, i have taken it using my

Shareen, I have seen this oud in one of my visits to Abu el Alaa but it was still in the making, only the bowl was constructed.
I told him then that i will visit him again when its done to see how it came out

Hey man, your teacher's a lefty ! The oud sounds great, it already sounds un-constricted in the mids and highs -- and nice and growl-y in the bass --
cell phone mic non-withstanding ! Makhoul's playing is wonderful. Congratulations, you got two winners -- the oud and the teacher.

i found this way is more easy for playing than the traditional one ;|)

This is really a masterpiece of Abu Alaa. The soundboard is made of ancient cedar and the bowl is a beauty. I liked the rosettes as well ! Mabrouk

BUT :
With all due respect to Samir Makhoul & his playing, (& I do respect & like the man & his playing) I think he didn't do any good to
this particular oud. He has rather "suppressed" the oud (well, kind of) by playing this close to the bridge. Once the player plays much more closer
to the big rosette, the oud would sound much more deeper & delicate, if I may say so, even much more sensitive to the slightest touch .
Well, I am not pretty sure, but thought I'd share my thought with you .
Do you think otherwise ? Does anyone agree with me ?

I totally agree with you on this point Al Faraby.
I noticed this point while playing on a turkish oud, I felt something was missing in my sounding, regarding to records I listen of turkish players,
and noticed many turkish player play closer to the bridge.
Indeed I find the sound much more "round" while playing closer to the big rosette.
Then it's a matter of taste, but I feel a large difference between both positions.

indeed, Sameer is left handed and he plays with a right hand string setup.
he also plays with a left hand setup but he says that he reaches a higher level of self expression this way.

I know what you mean about playing near the bridge but he has a particular sound he gets which I don't necessarily think that's a deficiency (I myself
play away from the bridge closer to the sound hole), I love he sound he gets the dryness - not my way but I want there to be differences - and his
playing is no less emotional for it imhi.
I'd love to know what Samer says about this if you get chance to ask.

yeaa totaly agree near the bridge " cold and flat sound " and near the rosette "hot and deep sound"
it depends on the mood of the player as well as what he wants to say (WITH THE
OUD)
but i have a question that wasnt answered from the beg : WHO IS ABOU ALAA ? and where does he live ?
