International Cooperation

Dear friends,

A couple of months ago a few of us talked about an international oud song from the US to Australia. Meanwhile, I was pursuing a similar idea. What if I work with all the talents I know to make the oud of my dreams?

I did, the result was two instruments.

I would like to extend my gratitude to quite a few my friends here who provided me with all kinds of input as well as help. Jameel (Jimmy),Mavrothis, Whisperoftheoud, as well as others. i am sorry I don't remember all the names.

I got the raw material in the GREAT US from

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bodies,_necks,_wood/Acoustic_guitar:_So...

Grade AAAA Red Sitka Spruce is the BEST material for the soundboard. The bowl was Indian Sag.

I ordered ebony for the fingerboard.

I got the bone nuts from :

http://www.alliedlutherie.com/bone.htm

Ordered medium size viola as well as violin pegs.

Also ordered 2 Labella String sets from our friend Jimmy:

Got the whole lot milled by my talented friend, Dorian in Houston.

Then, shipped the milled wood and the rest of the kits to Dr. Atef Abdel Hameed in Cairo.

Checkout the progress and the first result (Oud Number1) below

Stay tuned for oud number 2 :-)

Hi,

very interesting cooperation. But why do I need to sign in to Facebook, while I can see other blogs as a guest? Sorry, I don't have a Facebook account.

Greetings from Germany

OK Chris,

I did change the links to my Flickr account instead.

Oud number 2 is on its way. I will post pics as soon as I get it (hopefully, in one piece)!!!!

I hope that all my friends had a great and happy Easter Holiday.

Oud Number 2

My oud made it in one piece!

Here it is:

I decided to shut down the buying mania for a while.

... has a beautiful bowl and fascinating rosettes, but the dark wood around the rosettes is "too much" for my taste.
