Where can I buy a quality Lavta online?
I'm wary of buying an instrument online but I've never even seen one for sale, locally (Portland, OR, USA). Are there any models online that are
decent?

I would stay away from those inexpensive online lavtas...i have seen several and they are all very dead and muffled sounding. the lavta should be
very bright and resonant, The best lavtas that I have found are made by Dimitris Rapakousios(dimitrisouds.com).. I have 2 of his and a turkish one by
Turhan Demerilli...dimitris are far superior..for your information there are several neck length sizes. If you email Dimitris he can give you all the
specs...good luck

The lavta sounds ethereal.....

How much did that instrument cost you, if you don't mind me asking. I can't find any reference to prices on Dimitri's site.

Video Clip of Dimitris Rapakousios lavta
As per request, I have attached a youtube video of my teacher, Gary Haggerty, offering a sound sample of the lavta (pictured above) made by
Dimitris.

Hi - here's a photo of a lâvta I got last year from Mustafa Copçuoğlu
http://plumpasha.blogspot.com/2008/12/lavta-day.html
and here's a recording of it (I added reverb, but it does sound very good all by itself)
http://plumpasha.blogspot.com/2009/01/new-continent-same-city.html
He doesn't speak English, but if you're interested I'll e-mail him for you. I would guess this could be got for about $1,600 (including heavily padded
soft case and shipping); he usually takes about 40 days to make one. P.S. I'm moving to Portland next week - maybe we can get together and play a bit
(that lâvta will be there soon afterward - it's on a truck just now). Good luck either way! Eric Ederer (ederer@umail.ucsb.edu).

Sounds great! The longer tension seems to give it a great sound

I recently bought a Lavta from Cankaya Music in turkey, it's is identical to this one being played here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnQqnluPqHg
It cost me 500$ with a hard case and I love it
but if I had more money, I would have one custome made that is identical to the one Ross daly plays, it's a hybrid between the lavta and the laoto and
sounds awesome...
