Fathy & Saeed Amin ouds

Dear members, :wavey:

I am wondering if any of you are familiar with ouds made by Saeed Amin who I believe is Fathy's son and now makes ouds in place of his father. His prices are reasonable and I've heard a few of his or Fathy's ouds on you tube but have never tried one myself. The above link has an impressive display of available models and I would welcome your views. Thank you.

Best Wishes, Charlie

Hello Charlie,
Fathi Amin is a well-know Egyptian luthier who makes top quality ouds. His son Sayyed also builds excellent instruments. Their ouds have that “typical Egyptian” sound.
At a certain point, I did own A Fathi Amin Sycamore oud and a Sayyed Fathi Amin Wenge one. Both were excellent instruments. Based on my personal experience, I believe that Sayyed Fathi Amin builds nicer instruments than his father.
Good luck,
Hatem

Thank you Hatem for your views. Nice to know that son does as well as dad or even better. I have a soft spot for the "typical Egyptian" sound. My Sukar is lovely but falls short of Egyptian flavour.

Best Wishes, Charlie
