Oud meeting in Greece ?
This year I spent two months on a beautiful, pristine, semi-isolated Greek island (see attached picture), where my ancestors came from.
There are few people on the island and no tourists in the off season. There were also very few cars and they are not allowed in the main "piazza".
The peace and serenity combined with the natural beauty were overwhelming.
I thought to myself "what a beautiful place for a group of musicians to meet here and spend a week or so enjoying nature, music, friendship, and
learning".
We could have friends from Greece, Turkey, the Middle East, the USA, Europe, etc, and if any teachers come we could set up seminars for oud, baglama,
buzok, qanun, kaman, percussion, etc, etc. We could have musical events every evening and involve the island's inhabitants whose only entertainment
now is satellite television.
I realize Greece may be far, and expensive for a lot of people of this group, but it may be reasonably accessible to many.
If we do it in the off-season (say April or September) we may get very good rates for rooms and board.
I'd be willing to organize it if enough people are interested. I have no financial interest whatsoever.
Please let me know by responding to this or e-mailing me directly.
Thanks
Spyros C.

Island
It's a very very small island (about 150-200 people) that you probably never heard of. It's called Halki (Not to be confused with the one where the
well known Theological school is). It's close to Rhodes (which is a very big island) in the Dodecanese.
My great grandfather and his family emigrated from there to Egypt (where I and all my family were born for three generations) in the late 1800s when
they were building the Suez canal. I guess for the economic opportunity.
I went back there to search my roots. I currently live in California.
It was paradise.

I would love to go back to Greece.
My honeymoon was the best time ever. I would need a long heads up to make it happen though... 9 months to a year ideally.

I just got a message from Adel Salameh, graciously offering to conduct a oud workshop, if we could put together a oud meeting in Greece this coming
spring.
This is a tremendous opportunity for us to listen live and learn from this fantastic, world-renowned oud artist.
http://www.adelsalameh.com/
To make things even more exciting, the famous vocal artist Naziha Azzouz would be willing to offer an Arabic Vocal workshop, and the Egyptian Riqq
Master Adel Shams El-Din would offer a percussion workshop.
At this time we're thinking some time in April or early May to avoid the tourist rush and get good room and ticket rates.
If people are interested, please get in touch with me soon, through these forums or via e-mail, and we can all work out the details together. If you
can't make it now, but you could at another time, please let me know also. That will be good for future planning.
It would be really fantastic we if we could all make this happen. Early vacation in a small Greek island and Arabic/Mediterranean music sounds great
already.
We might even be able to get Dr. Oud to join us for a oud-making workshop!
Thanks
Spyros C.

Hi Spyros
Sounds very beautiful, I love Greek islands, magical places. What would the duration be, say a week ? what is the best airport, would it be Rhodes
then bus then ferry?
Very very tempting if I can get the time

I could be interrested too.
It depends on when it's going to happen.
How long ? How to go there?...
