Shehata Oud
I saw this on eBay. Is this a real Shehata oud?

If one of us gets it I'd love to know how it plays.

Perhaps!
I had the opportunity to play a Farouk Shehata oud several years ago and it was a splendid instrument. From memory, some of the elements of that oud
looked similar to this one. But after looking at the photos of this oud several times, I was not convinced of its authenticity.
No doubt many other forum members did the same thing.
I think it would have sold for a lot more if any of those forum members had been convinced.
Mike has a 1993 Farouk Shehata. You can see pics at: http://www.mikeouds.com/oudpics.html

Greg

I'm not and oud expert by any means and have never had the pleasure of playing a Shehata; but I also was not convinced of it's authenticity and saved
my $380, but did not want to point a negative finger on a subject that I wasn't completely knowledgeable about...thanks for some insight on that one.

I saw this oud before it popped up on the forum and had the same concern about the authenticity, Some parts are typical of a well built oud but the
peg box especially reminded me of the tourist ouds which you see coming out of Egypt on a regular basis.
Based on the photos only I wouldn't say it was a professional Farouk Oud but does anyone know if he made student/junior models this could well be one
of them and we may have missed out on a bargain piece of history.

I've had a Faruk Shehata oud in the past , I think the label was completly different . This oud is utterly fake and it's a tourist Oud .. Beware!!
