Purfling terms
Are there correct terms for the different types of purfling on ouds? In particular, is there a certain term for that classic, plain band purfling
that often shows up on classic Turkish ouds, versus that inlaid wood look?

The multi-piece edging on Arabic ouds is known as "tiled edging" in the English speaking Luthier world. It's not really inlay, because
it isn't surrounded by material. The coninuous edge is a little stronger and much easier to install and repair. Many modern Arabic oud makers
are adopting the continuous band method, probably for lower production cost.
