ornamentation

firstly, thanks to all for the help and topics on the forum. they are all very helpful and my knowledge has increased tremendously in just the last month.

one thing i keep seeing being mentioned without any solid response is information regarding ornamentation. are there any videos or exercises we could do to help develop some techniques or is this something that only comes with experience and practice?

I don't know any solid exercice reference for ornementation.
But I would advice you to listen, listen and again listen!
For exemple, choose a quite common piece you like, then seek for different interpretation for it from various artists.
Also I think a software like "transcribe" may help you to understand how people play (this software slowdown a recording).
May I recommand you to have a listeninf to Mustafa Said? To my point, this artist is great for what you're looking for:

Hope this will help.

I dont know your location, but if you're in NY, or Boston, Bassam Saba holds workshops where he teaches ornamentation. This can also be taught during private lessons with a teacher, or as Adel stated, listen to a lot of music.

my name is Abed and i live a little more than 30 minutes to manhattan. i was considering the workshops actually and will look into them when i feel a bit more comfortable as im still a very fresh beginner. im currently taking lessons with our very own Mavrothis and he is an EXCELLENT teacher and i highly recommend him to others in the area but im trying to learn as much as i can on my own in the interest of time since my job is a demanding one and im currently on vacation for another month.
