New Bezmara album
I have just bought the new Bezmara album '17. YĆ¼zyıl İstanbul'unda Musiki'
(Available here: http://www.tulumba.com/storeItem.asp?ic=MU936340FJ319).
This album continues Fikret Karakaya and Bezmara's goal of recreating the historical music of the Ottoman Empire from Istanbul, based on old miniature
paintings featuring musicians.
They have built many instruments now extinct in Turkey, including the miskal (panpipes), shahrud (large oud tuned down an octave),
the chang (Persian harp), the kemanche (spike-fiddle), metal-strumg qanun, santur and kopuz (long-necked
lute).
This album is dedicated to court music notated by the Polish born Ali Ufki (Woljiech Bobowski), written down in the 17th century.
An excellent album of old Ottoman art music, majestic and refined, beautiful to hear the old instruments too.
