TRYING TO APPROACH TO GAMIL GEORGES OUD SOUND
Hi all !
I've deeply impressed by this Gamil Georges oud's sound presented by bulerias1981 here:
http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=11783#pid80...
and tried to achieve it on my Reduced Price Point Ouds. Here is the link of the video recorded with one of my recently finished Reduced Price Point
Ouds. Ustaz Mehmet Bitmez plays it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laOd6DmIfPU&feature=youtu.be
I am well avare of the size difference between my oud and that Gamil Georges oud. Its string length looks 630mm and the body size 520mm, with the neck
of 210mm or bigger; as opposed to my standard 585mm string sized ouds. I will try to build a new mold for those measurements and try to brace the oud
made on that new mold in the same (or similar) brace frequencies. This is only a commitment for approaching to the original Gamil Georges sound.
Regards,

Great oud & Player . Thanks masters !
I was just about to write about the size when I saw the rest of Usta Faruk's post. Yes indeed. We need an Arabic sized oud of yours Master. The size
shall make this oud speak more Arabic.
If I'm allowed, I'd suggest to tune it a whole tone lower (at Bb F C G Eb Bb) (& pls. see : http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=13030&p... ) using Pyramid Lute strings 700 800 1012 1018 1024 ..., then listen & decide the final appropriate diameter !
Yours indeed

Dear Alfaraby,
I am determined to make different molds minutely whenever a special sized oud is ordered. Thanks to the digitalized model which I have mentioned about
in my thread titled" FLOATING BRIDGE OUD PREPARATION" this will be a less time consuming operation.
As for the one tone lower tuning of the oud: The soundboard of that oud on which you've driven this conclusion , may not have been designed specially.
One can come across with an oud by haphazard proper for one tone lower tuning. This may not be a sample to generalize the result. Have you tried one
tone lower tuning on several ouds made by different makers?
If so please let me know.
Kind regards

Yes Master ! I have had tens of Arabic ouds during the last 35 years I've been in the oud world. Some were very old and some were newly born, Syrian,
Egyptian, Iraqi, Morrocan, Palestinian .... Every single one of them sounded better to my ear when tuned F instead of
G.
This of course might be a subjective preference, not a scientific conclusion.
I have always assumed that oud should be tuned a whole step lower, but never found any reference to this argument.
There's a hanging question in the forum about this issue here, : http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=13176 that has not been concluded yet. Please Master, tell us there what do you think
about this issue.
Waiting to learn more about this question
Yours indeed

Thank you Alfaraby for notifying me about that thread. I've already posted some remarks there.
With respect.

The sounding is great master Faruk !
Just to know, what is the actual fee of shipping to France, and the average waiting time for an order of this model ?
All the best
