Yow! That's a fine "cameleopard" if I ever saw one. Do you know anything about the photo, John? Or about the man holding the instrument?

I could make up an interesting story about that man... yeah, let me do that! (Lets see how creative I can be...)
So this man is my great grandfather born in Spain and immigrated to Puerto Rico. He made that instrument in a shop in the middle of the rain forest.
The instrument was initially an oud, with the standard almond body shape, but the severe humidity warped the instrument's figure, and rendered it
useless as an oud. So in efforts to not suffer loss in labor hours and cost of materials, my great grandfather decided to modify the out of commission
instrument and fit it as a violin!
Okay, and now the truth. This photo was taken from one of my facebook friends, who also doesn't know much about the photo. Maybe I know more!

At first I thought you meant the "same guy" as in the photo was playing in the video. I soon worked out what was meant. So can we classify the
instrument in the photo as a "protopiyanolin"?

I've seen the piyanolin of Veysel Sarikus on youtube but for me that is still a quite strange concept, allthough I have respect for the efforts and
hard work put in the making of this instrument.

I think I have seen a similar photo to this one from when I was at the Sarikus workshop in Istanbul.
Master Cengiz pointed to an old picture on the wall of an instrument with the features of a violin and oud, which is where he got the idea of building
one.
