Michigan Arab Orchestra Takht Ensemble - Tahmila Suznak

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaICCBOub7g

Beautiful performance of Tahmila Suznak (originally Tahmila Rast?)
by the Michigan Arab Orchestra Takht Ensemble.

My question is regarding the nay taqsim which was amazing but
doesn't it end on Sikah/Segah? Shouldn't it have ended on Rast?
Or perhaps I'm mistaken.

[EDIT]I think his taqsim ends in Sikah because that
part of the Tahmila that they ended with starts with
that note. Right?[/EDIT]

Anyone's willing to affirm or correct my above statement?

Thanks.

In this case the entire taqsim appears to be in huzam so it would be natural to end on a sikah trichord as it is the lower portion of huzam. I would argue that a rast tetrachord would've been a somewhat stronger ending, possibly via suznak, but you're right, it does serve as a pretty stable lead-in to that last bit of the melody.

I agree with Ameer's conclusions.
It works okay to have the taqasim in Huzam, but it still sounds odd to me that it doesn't resolve back to Rast at the end. The only way to avoid resolving back to Rast, I think, is to lead back into the main melody by suggesting the Ab in the upper tetrachord.
