As reported by some Egyptians, master luthier Fathy Amin passed away this morning, Oct 5, 2012 in Cairo.

that's very sad news really
I remember when I was trying to find his workshop in the suburbs of Cairo...A policeman, kids and other people make a big crowd and helped me find
him.
I wish his son will continue his father's great work

As the proud owner of the gorgeous Fathys I am particularly saddened by the news. I hope all his knowledge and craftmanship can somehow live through
his son Sayed, to whom I have just sent him an email of condolences (and I would encourage anyone who ever cared about ouds to do the same)......
