Turkish Makam Music @ Barbes in Brooklyn w/ HOSHNEVA

Hi everyone,
Tomorrow night October 26 in Brooklyn, NY I'll be playing some Turkish classical repertoire with Ahmet Erdogdular. Here is some more info:

Barbès
376 9th St, Brooklyn, New York 11215

Ahmet Erdoğdular - voice & percussion
Peter Daverington - Turkish ney
Adam Good - ud

Hoshneva, which means "pleasant melodies" in Turkish, is the name for this ensemble of musicians steeped in the Turkish Classical music tradition. The group features Ahmet Erdoğdular, Turkey’s foremost vocalist noted for his role in preserving the classical singing style of the Ottoman Turkish musical tradition. Their repertoire features works written between the 18th and 20th Centuries by master musicians of Istanbul who drew on the ancient sounds of makam for their compositions. Melodic lines are mirrored on the traditional ney (end-blown flute) and ud (father of the Western European lute) and the group also explores these makams through improvised taksims.
