Kyriakos Kalaitzidis is playing an oud made by δημητρης
ραπακουσιος, Mehmet Bitmez, a 19th century oud made by Kapıdağlı Ilia and Naseer
Shamma playing a Faruk Türünz Oud made in 2007.
Although Naseer Shamma had taken his Iraqi Style oud made by Yaroub Mohammed Fadhel with him, he did not want to change that oud's strings and
required from me to give him an oud for the concert "Üç Udun Hikâyesi" (The Story of Three Ouds).
I am honored for having provided this event with a little contribution.

Presumably Naseer Shamma was using a different tuning to that which he is used to?

You are right David. Naseer Shamma tunes his Iraqi style oud starting with high (f) for the first pair of the nylones and progresses in all fourth
down to the last string (bass). It is tuned in (F) second octave of the first (f) which is in third to the previous pair AA.
Contemporary Turkish tuning as you know starts with d and progresses in all fourt. The bass sometimes tuned differently. For some makams it is tuned
in B, A, G etc. instead of C# which would be so in the true interval (all fourth).

Thanks for confirming that Faruk. Do you know if he has used this tuning before, or if it was something that he first used in this particular
project?
All the best

You're welcome David. Naseer Shamma has been conducting an oud school name "Bait AlOud" which he established. He is accostomed to all different type
ouds and tunings.
All the best
Faruk
