Medieval & Renaissance Music for Oud
Hello,
A while back I bought a CD with Munir Beken playing medieval and renaissance music on the oud, called "A Meeting Place: Medieval & Renaissance
Music for Lute & Ud". I thought it could be fun to play a bit of this. Do any of you have recommended sites/resources for such sheet music?

Sure.
The album is very nice...of course very different from Turkish/Arabic music...but very nice nevertheless.
I'd be interested to get some good sheet music for medieval songs, as from what I've read, at that time the lute was more like the oud is
today...played with a plectrum and melodically. So it seems that the older/medieval music might be very well suited for the oud.

Hi.
I really like Medieval and Renaissance Western music too (as well as Baroque, Classical etc).
One of the best groups I have heard to use the oud with Medieval Western music is the Eduardo Paniagua group.
Wafir Sheik el-Din on oud.

If you do have a few sheets to upload, I'd really appreciate it.
I did look at the original notation for the Cantigas de Santa Maria here (http://www.cantigasdesantamaria.com/index1.html). But I'm not really sure how to read it. I plan on looking into that more in the future.

The author of the Cantigas link posted goes into detail on how to read his transcriptions (see Neume Search under the Tools tab) although he does not
cover the subject in all of its specialist aspects.
A good book covering early notation (including Neumes) that might be of interest and practical value is "The Notation of Polyphonic Music 900-1600" by
Willi Apel - available here as a free download
