Hi James,
I use Daniel Mary strings on my Sukar.Light tension and a full,deep sound.The trebles could be a bit more crispy, but all in all they are the best in
this price-range.
I change them more often than the Pyramids I use on my other arab oud because they dont last long, but they only cost a third of the Pyramids.
Additional it fasten up the string changing business from 2h to 30 min.
Really worth a try.

For the wound strings C.F.A.d from the Pyramid Orange label oud set
For the plain strings g = Pyramid lute string 0.825
c = Pyramid lute string 0.650

For my Sukar Oud, I use custom Pyramid strings for the bass. I find the Pyramid treble strings a little dark, I prefer to use treble nylon strings
from Kurschner.

labella oud string
Just cturious, I had pyramid oud string that the D A G silver strings started to show oxidization so I replaced them with with Labella arabic strings.
The sound of Labella was way too flat and lacks dynamic as if somebody turned off the lights or something. So after stringing 6 of those babies I
wonder if there is a better sounding strings or do they get better with time? Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I've never tried Labella but I had the same impression with Daniel Marie... the lack of dynamics was obvious compared to Pyramid strings. All of this
is a matter of choice ... Pyramid strings are expensive but you pay for the quality.
The Oxydation is a normal process, it depends of your climate (% of humidity of the air) and of the the sweat of your hands ... it starts on the
thinnest strings ("d course") first ... If you keep your string set for a long time (6 months), it might be a good option to use carbon (PVF) for the
"d course" ...

I tried Kurschner low tension this last time I changed strings and they are fantastic. I really like the PVF trebles.
However Kurschner are not available right now in the US (that I could find) so the shipping costs make them as expensive as gut strings.
I have a 62 cm scale length model so the low tension sets work well. Normal Arabic tension strings tend to be too tight.

Hi!
I have owned 10 sukar ouds over the years (now I have 4 left).
And they all are so different..
And they respond differently to different strings!
Furthermore, the same oud would, for example, sound better with pyramid on D, but with Labella on c , and so on..
So none of the Sukar ouds I own have the same string type all over!
So if you are looking for the optimal sound of your oud, my advise for you is to experiment!!
It is not cheep though.. I know.. I have a big box filled with strings..
