Aquila Strings types question

Dear Oudists,
I have tried lots of string brands but I am using most of my oud life LaBella strings. Some months before I used one set of Aquila for my arabic oud and it had some incredible bass! I was thrilled!

Today I saw that it has some categories for the Arabic oud from their site based on the tension and each tension has some by type, 1st type,2nd type etc...

Does anybody knows what are the types ?I give you a link with the normal tension types.

I like the sound of Aquila strings and I use them but I use them carefully. A search of this forum will turn up a lot of information and opinions about these strings, including comments by Mimmo, the owner of Aquila. What type of strings to use depends on your oud and its *scale* (vibrating string length) but I would advise that you interpret Aqulia's categories like this

Normal tension means Super Duper High Tension that may damage your oud.

Light Tension means Above Average tension but safe for most Arabic ouds, though maybe not for Turkish ouds. I wouldn't use these on a scale length longer than 61.5 cm.

Superlight I haven't seen and have not heard any comments about.

My oud scale is 60cm.
In my tuning I can see from one online shop that they have 2 models.
1. Aquila Arabic Oud Strings DGAdgc' Set 12o Normal (High) Tension
STR-AQ-12O

2. Aquila Arabic Oud Strings DGAdgc' Set 16o
STR-AQ-16O

Which of them is the normal? the 12o is normal to high? The 16o is normal?

I am confused. In aquila's site I can't find any of theese.

Thanks again.

So a 13o set would not work on a 62cm scale?

Manoutis, Aquila has stopped production on many models offered previously. Currently, only 9o (CFAdgc', high/'normal' tension) and 13o (CFAdgc' medium/'light' tension) are available.

Hussam, 13o could be used on a 62cm oud but the tension would be pretty high. It would be okay on a modern oud, but I wouldn't use it on an old oud.

So there is not a model available for DGAdgc now in normal tension?
The 9o -12o etc do you know for what they stand for?
Also, if it says normal/high is something between these two?

Thanks a lot! :)

Thanks for the info Brian. The oud is new and it uses Pyramid orange. I guess I'll stick with that. I just have to figure out what to do with a D'Addario J95 and 2 Aquila 13o sets.
