schools of oud

This is a cool clip of a very proficient player who really knows how to demonstrate the different styles of oud.

He is from the Michael Jackson school of oud. lol

I think its to help slide and reduce string noises. He does get a clean sound from his oud to be fair.
Probably helps extend the life of the strings as well since it doesnt come in contact with the oils and moisture from the hands.

So he's left handed, but instead of changing the order of the strings he just plays his oud "upside down".

That's interesting. I wonder if there are any disadvantages to that.

There are advantages for sure, like you can pick up any oud from anyone.

I guess the main issue is reaching the really high positions on treble side... he doesnt seem to have to much problem with that though.

Not a word about the glove.
It seems that he always wear it, not only in the talk-show interview !

I tend to believe he's hiding something underneath !
Nevertheless, he's doing great, isn't he ?

Yours indeed

perhaps he has had an accident or skin problem on that hand and wearing a glove would cover it up?
I don't think he's from the Micheal Jackson School of Thriller Oud though, not enough rhinestones or MOP on the glove

This is very fascinating! Is he demonstrating different styles?

He's playing a Faruk Turunz Oud! Maybe his glove is dulling some of the "crispness".?

Yes he plays the Classical Egyptian style, followed by the Gulf Style that is very rythmic, followed by the Iraqi style, followed by the Shammy style (levantine style) mixed with his own style.

That Faruk oud sounds great I agree, also you can tell he is a player with a light and precise touch so the action is probably very low. I agree Navid, perhaps the glove helps to smooth it out.
