Ever tried distortion on electric Oud?

I used to play a lot of electric guitar back in highschool, before I was able to find my first Oud. I am somewhat into heavy metal, most particularly the Armenian heavy metal band System of a Down. I haven't picked up guitar in many years, and was reminiscing about those days and decided I would experiment with a friend's multiOud for a blog post on my site. Here's a video of what I did. It was kind of fun, but perhaps not what I would pursue...

Next week I'm going to do a full review of the MultiOud. It's a fascinating instrument, but it's a strange Oud.

Sounds a little awkward, nice and different use of the instrument though. You should definitely listen to Orphaned Land, the ultimate Middle-Eastern metal band, and they frequently make use of the oud as well.

Dude! No! :)

I tried the Godin Multioud and I liked the sound, close to an oud but not exactly. The problem is Musicians Friend could not deliver it without damage! I had 3 units shipped over a month and the EQ unit was inside the cavity, and one had a crack in the face. I think they mount the heavy EQ unit in groves in the body and with the cold weather this winter the wood expanded/shrunk or something.

The tuning is easy with the guitar tuners and for people that are used to playing a guitar it is easier to hold. It is well built and I am sure to try to get one again in the spring. I got them down to $1155 (it normally sells for $1600), but they could not get one to me in one piece. Ugh!

I still love my real oud even if it is moody sometimes.

But my material is very cheap and sound not easy to control.

Check the band Speed caravan. Good sounds ;)
