Sunbat der Bedrossian 1940 - copy
Hello,
let me show you here some pictures of my latest copy of the Sunbat der Bedrossian oud from 1940 which I some time ago did restore.
This instrument here has been made with a walnut body with boxwood stripes, a rosewood veneered neck and a rosewood fingerboard. The very special part
in this instrument is the soundboard. For this I did use a very old material. I found this over 10 years ago, when we have been looking for a new
wooden floor for our house we had bought. The shop offered wooden floors made from old wood beams. From a big stack I could find some fine pieces.
I assume that this material which I used for this instrument here will be aged for 200 - 250 years.
Unfortunately the material was not big enough, so I had to assemble the soundboard from 6 pieces.
The roses are a design from Nahat ( 1931 ) and the inlay is a Hana Nahat design from 1924.
Best regards
Matthias

Thanks,
I can do the rose by hand. I did it with the rose shown in this post. But the rose in Bedrossian copy is done with a machine. Cutting by hand needs
around 20 hours I would say, I did not stop it.
regards
Matthias

Nice work Matthias, there is nothing wrong with a soundboard in multiple parts, in fact, I actually like it

Thank you!
We are used to have soundboards only made from two parts which are bookmatched. But looking at old instruments lutes and oud's, it can always be seen,
that they are made from more than 2 pieces. I have no problem in doing this.
Finally the sound is the decisively factor estimating the instrument.
