I've heard good things about the Najarian 2000 model:

Another option is of course the Godin Multioud. I've never tried it myself but what I hear is mostly positive.

Hey Basil,

I've had a Sukar electric oud, a Sukar with K&K twin spot pickups, a Shehata oud with a bridge pickup, and a Godin multioud. I think it depends on what you're using the oud for.

I like the Shehata when I blend the pickup with the mic, but the bridge pickup dosen't carry enough for live sound. The Sukar electric sounded like an electric and I never really liked the sound - and I had to run an effects pedal. For small stuff where I can just play through an amp I like my Sukar with K&K. For occasions where I need to go through a PA and I'm playing with tabla players who like to hit the drum loud I really like the Godin.

Also, I think price point is a consideration. My Godin was about $1700USD, the Shehata around $1500, the Sukar with twinspots $900 (but I installed the pickups myself) and the toilet seat electric oud $500.

Chris
