"turkish" strings - arabic oud

hey guys, i have a bunch of extra sets of labella "turkish" oud strings, and my cousin just got an arabic oud. rather than buying more strings I've heard you can use the "Turkish" strings and just tune them lower. again i have the labella strings and he wants to tune it to DGAdgc. will this be ok for the oud? i'm assuming yes but just making sure....i know nothing about strings, gauges, etc.

You can use the Turkish set on most Arabic ouds, but the treble nylons will often seem too light for Arabic tuning (particularly the first c'c' course). Minimum for Arabic tuning is usually .024" for c'c' and .028" for gg, but .025"-.026" and .029"-.031" are more typical.
My recommendation would be to go ahead and use the wounds but get some different nylon strings.
