Mustafa Said

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNlq-tHPfKA&list=PLPUjb5kAPHCHTd...

any comments on this? I love his playing, and i think its interesting what he is doing here, but dont think it would be ok if someone less accomplished than him were to do it. Why is that? He seems to have a wide spectrum of capabilities with the instrument; playing compositions with an ensemble, delicately playing solo maqam, and....this

any thoughts?

Yeah he is a beast, one of my favorite players. Also he is blind :)

by the way, this particular video highlights playing that most definitely the furthest thing from the classical arabic style which he is much better versed in. this of course is my opinion, some people may have enjoyed this creative style of playing but for me that isnt what I like about him.

That explains a lot. I had no idea, i thought he just rolled his eyes back because he was so into the music. He is one of my favorites too, such a range of sounds he can make, harmonics and pinching, i've never heard anyone else to those things.

I really don't get this. When he plays the cords or that random tremolo'd note it sounds like he's playing a badly set-up electric guitar. Is there more than one instrument involved or something?
