Hüseyin Aktel ouds

Hello dear oud lovers,

I spent one day at Hüseyin Aktel shop in Uskudar on the asian side of Istanbul.
Finally i bought a oud he build about 15 years ago.

He 's a very kind man, his work is very precise, the ouds are all finished with gomme lacque. Prices are very honest.

I made a small video with some pics i took during the trip and a Hüzzam Rast taksim.

I highly recommend his ouds.

He doesn't speak english at all, so it's better he you go with a turkish speaking friend if you can't speak turkish.

His shop is about 500m from Uskudar harbour, on Hakimiyeti milliye caddesi
It's on the right side in the underground of a small commercial center Beysel Ticaret Merkezi.

Hi Franck,
Thanks for sharing this sound clip.
Could you tell us what kind of difference in term of sound and sustain you notice between this Hüseyin Aktel ud and the Turunz turkish ud you used to play on most of your sound clip ?
best,
Juju.

THey are very different, it's not easy to explain with words. The relation with a musical instrument is something personal.
Türünz ouds (i had 3, one reduced price turkish, one dbl soundboard turkish and one dbl soundboard arabic) have more sustain and in their way more perfect in term of balance.
But Aktel oud has something special that makes it feel like an old friend.
It has a kind of personal voice that i like a lot, something very sweet and deep.
I play in tune more easily and the ideas flow in my mind.
