Oud played by Rawhi al Khammash
Does anyone know the identity of the oud played in this video?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zWf-O70_9k&feature=youtu.be
It's a good example of how the presence of a high ff course does not necessarily make for an over-bright sound. This appears to be a 7 course oud. I
like the sound and the playing as well. Rawhi al Khammash is playing his own composition, a lovely samai in Hijazkar Kurd (Kurdili Hijazkar). It's
going to take me some time to be able to play the 4th khana with the right feel and phrasing.
I love how his taqsim is "cut from the same cloth" as the samai. It's all of a piece and there is no question of deep feeling being at odds with
intellectual content or form. Everything works together. It's music like this that drew me to the oud in the first place.
Anyway I wonder who built this oud...

Hi Jody,
I am precisely working on this samai since few weeks.
I also like it very much. And yes the 4th ends with a part in rhythm Jurjina that is not so easy.
In fact, this samai will be studied in the Oriental Summer Academy[/url] organised by our well known member Matthias in the begin of September in
Sulzburg Germany. The teacher is Saif Al Khayyat.

I learned this (well still very much learning it) from Sherine Tohamy, who learned it from Nasser shamma who, I think, learned it from rahwi Al
khammesh himself, but it is still amazing to see this original version, and especially as Jodi says the seamless taqsim

The oud is a 7 course oud made by Muhammad Fadhel in 1997, as the host says..

I did wonder about that. Interesting to note that back in the 70s he was already using the treble clef design in the rosette and the same shape
bridge as later.

Mood: Dude, where's my Oud?

He's like a copy of Munir Bashir (in shape and posture).
Great music!
