A Georgy Nahat??

Hi all,

Can Nahat experts verify the authenticity of this oud? Presented as Georgy Nahat 1942. I was told by the owner that it is 100% original, and that he had only recently sanded both the soundboard and the fingerboard. Was helping him to sell it through my accounts, but some friends raised some issues that made me inquire expert insights and ooinion on this.

I'd really appreciate it y'all

Thanks,

Dear Francis,

I just got a word of assurance from Adel Salameh about it's authenticity :buttrock:
Yes, here's a link to the brief video recording:

Beautiful - you should have told us before selling it... :D

By the way, Oud.Proff: who is/was Ammar Shureiy?

Why on earth would he sand the soundboard even just to get the layer of oil and dust of the soundboard? Even if one knew what one was doing, is that even recommended for an antique Oud of this calibre?? Fingerboard... okay, but the soundboard????

No you should never take something as abrasive as sandpaper to the fingerboard or soundboard. I can't imagine why anyone would do such a thing but it will most definitely affect the value of the oud.

Hello,

Thanks for your inputs. The oud belonged to a friend, and my understanding is that he just did some cosmetic work on the soundboard and the fingerboard. Not sure though it was all done professionally, but the oud looks and sounds just fine !

Doc139, Ammar Shureiy was a famous Egyptian composer who passed away recently. Very unique musician

Regards
