now about 4 weeks ago I finished a new aoud after the old Sumbart der Bedrossian aoud I once restored. This is around the 6th or 7th instrument now of
this fine model. More about the original instrument you can find here. http://www.lutes-strings.de/english/Aoud_syrisch-alt.php
You know as I am comming from the europen lute making, a jobI'm doing now over 35 years, I attach high importance to the making principles of that
time. So it was a good basic to have the old Instrument in my hand and to be able to discover it precicely before copying it.
For a first information find here some pictures. It is an instrument with a simpler design to reduce the price.
The scale is 60 cm as on the original.
The back is maple and Walnut
The soundboard is spruce
The neck is cherry
The pegbox is Walnut
The pegs are boxwood
The fingerboard is rosewood
