advice please! zeryab, sabsaby, shehata...?
Hi all
I´m new to the forum. Thank you very much for this amazing site!
I need advice, I want to buy a new oud, and I´m interested in knowing your experience with Zeryab (Ali Khalife) Sabsaby ouds... which one is better?
I think Zeryab has very good prices, not that sure about Sabsaby...
What I want is a syrian style oud
Can I find a pro oud for a maximum of 1000USD?
I´m planning to go to Beirut or to Cairo in the coming months
Any advice in Cairo? eventhough I prefer syrian ouds, maybe I find a better option in Cairo...
Please help!!

From my personal experience having bought an oud from Sabsaby a few months back, his ouds are excellent. They are well built and have great sound.
They are not cheap though and will surely cost more than the $1000 mark. Sabsabys' are like the BMWs of ouds - if that makes sense!! :-)
Khalifeh's oud are certainly cheaper and would fall well within your budget. They look pretty too. I heard positive feedbacks about them but I've
never tried them myself.
I recall that there was one or two of khalifeh's ouds for sale on this forum recently. Check "buy and sell" section.
Good luck and let's know what you've got :-)
Onwards and upwards

Hi Alaaraj
Thanks for answering!
I´ll wait to see if any Khalife´s oud owner say something about his experience with his ouds.
Do you know any other maker that for that price makes good instruments??
And what about between Shehata and Sabsaby?
Any other interesting makers in Cairo or Beirut?
too many questions, I know...

hello oudsharqi
it is worthy trying Michael Moussa of England if you are around. His simple ouds (no much ornamentation) are within his budget. He is very friendly
and would give you a sincere advice

Thanks for the info Markus.
The thing is that I´m travelling to Cairo and Beirut next month, and would love to find a good oud to bring with me. If I cannot find anything like
I´m looking for I´ll try Michael Moussa

what's the story with Zaher Khalifeh? does he still make ouds? is he working with zeryab (Ali Khalifeh)?
I feel Zaher's ouds were sounding very nice.
For all I love the ouds Sabsaby is making these days, using some very creative and artistic decoration. I am not a fan of the very thick varnish on
the back... looks like its sprayed and very thick.
