Where to find gut oud strings?
Hello friends
I am looking to buy, ideally, a complete set of gut oud strings (of good quality, that will sound good, of course If that isn't possible, I'm looking for reasonable prices for individual gut strings that i can put together
to.make.a.set. If -that- isn't possible.. well.. i guess any info or recommendations about where to order not-so-inexpensive gut strings would also be
appreciated. I'm also wondering:
-I understand that there are different types of gut strings, ie. Loaded, and other types that were used on lutes, according to the pitch required of
the courses (found this info on a string suppliers webpage.. maybe kirshner). And so..
Q. What sub-types of gut string would i order for each of the courses of an 11 stringed Arabic oud (a sukar, 60cm scale length, to be perhaps overly
informative
What I've found so far:
Gut strings, $10usd / string, from aquila USA ... For the trebles anyway. So yes.. $110 for a set, assuming the bassier strings cost the same (might
be more, probably are)
What i tried (which didn't work):
Emailing rim_essaouira@hotmail.fr , in french and English, which was suggested via this forum -- apparently a supplier of gut strings... No reply
there yet.. mind you, the post that re ommended them is a couple/few years old now..
Can anyone help me, offer any good leads or advice? I just love the sound of gut strings, from the few examples I've found in recordings. Also an oud
teacher speaks highly of them, who i had a lesson with recently.. he remembers them from his years growing up in the middle East.. tho even he didn't
have a supplier, but was working on it
I get that they won't last as long.. i get they might be expensive .. I'm definitely wanting to give it a go anyways. I have a feeling it's the sound
and feel I'm looking for
Thank you so much,
Warmly,
Noel,

Hello Noel,
as far as I did compose many sets for the aoud with Pyramid or Savarez Nylon or carbon strings, I am familar to put also togather a set with high
quality gut strings for your instrument as I did this many times for european lutes, which braught me a lot of experience. If you like me for doing
this please contact me through my webshop's contact form at https://music-strings.de/kontakt.php as I do need some informations from you about the instrument ...
I will then make you a proposual and will discuss the result with you.
Best regards
Matthias
