turkish oud
hi everyone
i have about a little over a thousand dollars to spend on a new turkish oud, and want know what would be good. I want the best i can get for this
money, something with a nice bright sound on the treble strings but also with good bottom end. What do the Turunz ouds start at?
Also, what about Haluks higher end stuff, sound wise? sound files appreciated.
regards
monty

According to the Turunz website (http://www.oudmaster.com), it looks like his ouds start at $1400.
Another Turkish oud in that price range would be ones by Sadettin Sandi (http://www.cankayamuzikevi.com). This was the first oud I bought, in 1996, and I think it is pretty good. I paid $600, although I picked it up
in Turkey. Still, his website lists them as low as $500.

Mustafa makes excellent ouds - I think you might be able to get a cheaper one for $1200, perhaps $1400. I don't know any way to get them outside
Istanbul, however.
Also, some of my favorite contemporary ouds are made by Yucel, who I believe is in Izmir (he was better known as a kanun maker, but after turning out
some spectacular ouds has augmented his reputation). I have NO idea what the prices are for his instruments, but it's worth a shot.
