I was recently contacted by my aunt who is wanting to purchase a new Oud for her son for his birthday. He would be a beginner. Her price range is
approximately $600 or less. I want to choose the best quality Oud I can find for that price that would both play nice and sound good. I want his
learning experience to be as good possible and we all know low quality Ouds make learning harder. I have seen the Shehata Apprentice Ouds advertised
on this forum. I am hoping to get some reviews from people who have purchased one of these Shehata Apprentice Ouds. So far I believe it might be a
good choice.
Assuming the boy isn't too young to deserve a decent oud to start on, that's what I would buy in your situation. My dad has an apprentice oud, and I
jam on it when I visit. That's a nice starter oud and he should be careful and take care of it. Email Mike, he'll give you an honest opinion.
Here's a vid of me playing it. https://youtu.be/oPuEBVBNOfw
