Temel Sehit oud rebuild project - update and questions
A diamond in the rough project...
Found this online for way dirt cheap (less than my phone bill) with hard case, no less. Before i pulled the trigger i did some research and couldnt
find a whole lot, but he has been mentioned here a few times and one of his ouds was recently for sale here. If anyone can provide a broader context ,
I'd love to know more about the maker.
It needs a little love:
1) pickguard needs to be glued back down;
2)Chip in fingerboard built up/filled in;
3) one of the intermediary ribs has a slight split in the wood itself, but its not long and I can find no other splits in the body. Debating to fill
or just monitor.
I love my 7 course Sabsaby floating bridge oud, which after a year a is really growing into its own unique sound, but this will be a cool piece and it
will be good to have a traditional Turkish voice on hand (my own playing is going more and more that way anyway).
Process done for the moment.
Pickguard split into shards during re-attachment so I'm going with the contact paper clear sheet for now. Put a little hide glue on the back split.
Restrung, figured out that the pegs I think are Wittner pegs or equivalent; you have the set screw that adjust the tension so they actually hold!
Really nice and makes me think this is a higher end piece.
Action is way higher than I'd like and higher than a Turkish oud should be. This is at 5 mm. Not sure how to fix this ; been looking at the recent oud
bending thread but a little hesitant to try that myself.
Strung it with a LaBella Turkish set; not a fan of the tension balance on this set at all. I have an Aquila set i ordered as back up and may use that.
if i can get the action repaired i may invest in a custom set of Pyramids.
would love some feedback and thoughts on this folks, thanks!
