Sukar oud - help needed
Hi all,
I would be grateful if anyone could help identifying this Sukar oud (model and date, i.e. if the label inside provides any info). It is definitely
more than 10 year old and I'm pretty happy with it - I'd just love to know more as the seller didn't know much about it.
Thanks in advance!
Yiannis

It looks like the same model as this one here repaired by yaron naor: https://gramho.com/media/2032133580756337780
I am unsure what model however. I have a sukar, and it has different woods than yours-mines a model 214:

. I like this one however, it looks great and I bet sounds great.
Some model one's(201) have different woods from what i have seen, so I am not sure how to determine exactly, but this may be a model 201.
Any other thoughts?

Hi Matt,
There was a shop (long out of business) selling Sukars in Athens. I remember the prices back then (10 years ago+) being rather low, so I would expect
it to be a 201 or any other of a similar price point. But I am curious to know exactly. :-)
On your comments, from looks to grip to sound, if I had to use just one word, it would be "solid". It's a no-bullshoot thing,
simple but sturdy construction, minimal decoration, yet so comfortable to handle and so punchy in its lower registers. And it's LOUD. Its sound is not
that refined, sure, but it's a beast when called to play along with other instruments, esp. loud ones in outdoor spaces. Instances where my mid-range
Sandi for example, which is lovely to play in a hall, is challenged more than a bit.
As in your case, the pegs need replacement - they go unbelievably deep. They hold tuning well though, once set. As for the screw setting the action, I
have yet to understand why such a solution has not been widely introduced in ouds. Cheers!
