Strange Pegbox Resonance

I recently bought a new Turkish oud from sultan instruments (in general, I wouldn't recommend them). However, when the oud arrived, I noticed a strange high pitch ringing (almost like a rattling?) coming from the pegbox when I was playing.

It must be a resonance because it only sounds when I play an F sharp in any octave. None of my string ends are touching inside the pegbox, I've changed to a new set and the problem has persisted.

The finish was cracked along the joint where the box meets the neck on the left and right sides of the pegbox if that helps.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is or how I can fix it?

Some of the strings are crossed and touching inside the pegbox, try to restring and make sure the strings are wound cleanly and don't cross on top of each other

Mood: Dude, where's my Oud?

I have this problem with every Oud I've owned. It's the way I string it. The strings vibrate in sympathetic resonance in the peg box, so I just cut a little brown felt and wedge it between the vibrating string.

I don't string the "traditional way" anymore for this exact reason. It doesn't actually make sense to cross the A and the d strings. And that's usually the culprits.

Hello

May come from a wound string touching a wall of the pegbox.
You can follow the above advises, using a kind of thin tube, or more quickly a piece of paper / carton to isoleat the string from the pegbox wall

It occurates frequently, not a big deal

Check this if it remains unclear:

I just shove a lens cloth or a small bandana between the strings of the peg box and the problem seems to go away each time.
