Gearing pegs ?

Hello
Do you know other gearing pegs than Wittner ?
Wittner pegs seems to be good and light ... but price is more than 20euros per peg... so x 11-12 strings.. ouch !
Thanks for your help

Pegheds is a good brand, I believe that's the one that John Vergara uses. It's a small shop production, the owner is a great guy and likes to work with luthiers, you can contact him from his shop:

Knilling licensed his design and produces similar pegs, but I believe those are made in china or other low-cost country.

Hello Brian thanks for links !

Both are expensive for my "pegs part" in my ouds. It means increase the overall price by about 150-200 euros ... not possible for for big majority of musicians

I continue my research ;)

I hadn't heard of the Knilling Pegs as of yet. Interesting!
Sylvain, maybe you can contact these companies, tell them who you are, and see if they can send you some samples to try in your instruments to see which ones you like?
Since you are a luthier, they should be happy to send you some to try to get your future business :D
You can also always send me an moon OUD with new pegs for testing purposes as well :D :D He hee- Just kidding!
cheers,
Matt

Hi matt

Thanks for advices ! I would like to send some instrument just for test to a lot of poeple as you my friend ! One day maybe ;)

I found other gearing pegs cheaper than wittner or Knilling style. Result is a different style as you can see.
Tuning is here very easy (ratio is 1/6) and in fact the style disturbed my eyes ... 5 minutes !
That s a test on my personnal acoustic oud. I hadn't drill the pegbox. Installation was easy and "direct".
What do you think about it ?

It is amazing you found yet another tuning peg company!
I think the main importance here is the function of the pegs. "Je pense que l'importance principale ici est la fonction des chevilles de réglage." As you say, they seem to work well at 1/6 ratio.
The look is something one would have to get used to, but then again your oud's have your own special style, so these pegs may work for this style.
I came from a strictly western perspective, only having learn of an OUD just before joining this forum. At that time for me the look of the OUD, especially the neck area took some major time to get used to. But I have grown to like the traditional look of an OUD or Barbat, and now when I see an OUD that is somewhat different, it takes getting used to.
I will need more time to get used to these pegs...maybe 5 minutes!! :D
Cheers,
Matt
