Sukur #37 just ordered
I just ordered a #37 from Sukur, he is now building it and said it will be completed in about 2.5 months. Really excited to get it!

My experience is that Sukar ouds are generally very good, especially for the price. They routinely sound better than ouds costing hundreds of dollars
more. Occasionally there is a dud, but mostly they are solid and reliable. Good for students, with the better ones easily being suitable for
semi-professional or even professional use.
I don't know what the experience is with ordering from Sukar directly, but by all accounts he is an honest and decent businessman.

So glad to see these lovely OUD's still being made and loved. I love my sukkar OUD!
I can't believe he has an entry Oud for 175$(the #1 model) and it is probably great for starters.
Edward, I can see why you are excited to get the #37. Beautiful. Please share pics/sounds once you get it!
Cheers,
Matt

Paying for my Sukur Oud
Sukur said he did not need any money until the Oud is completed. He is also going to send videos of the process. Not sure how payment will be made,
hopefully an easy process. I would assume he has someone outside of Syria receiving payments for him. I was planning on getting one directly from him
while in Syria this summer but decided to order one directly from him instead of having to travel from my village to Aleppo and then worry about
getting it home undamaged. It comes with a hard case so bringing it on the plane with me probably would not be an option.

Ibrahim Sukur has a son who lives in Turkey who receives payments for him. That is how I will be making my payment.

Difference as oud construction between FA-fa tuning and DO-do
The ouds that are in tuning Fa-Fa are the same as construction with that are in tuning Do-do? They are the same oud with only different tuning, or are
different constructions?

Which one will you order? For my taste #7 is the most appealing of the four.

Typically the construction is not different. With a master luthier, it may be tailored to a particular tuning, but with mass produced ouds like
Sukar, Zeryab or the many Egyptian factories it isn't.
That said, it's very possible for an oud to sound better in one tuning or another for a variety of reasons. In my experience, Sukar ouds are
especially consistent and reliable, which is a big reason for their popularity.

It was a question that was responding to me, because on the Zeyrab page, it reports on each oud individually the tuning. And I did not understand if
it is binding.
Thank you very much for your information. It's clear now.
Finally the #17.
I have to say that I had a great deal of choosing. All four likes the same too and was difficult the choice for me.

The only issue would be the pegs, nut and bridge holes - these could vary. Mostly it shouldn't matter, but typicall F-f' tuning has 12 strings while
C-c' has 11.
Most ouds have 12 pegs so you can do either but some have only 11. You could still do F-f' with 11 pegs but the low F wouldn't be doubled.
Some makers drill the string holes very small for the treble strings, so if it was drilled for f' then the c' strings might not fit. But this is
unusual - I've only really encountered this problem with Turkish makers drilling for PVF and then nylon doesn't fit (even at the same tuning).
#17 looks great, would have probably been my choice.

The FIRST thing to do when buying oud from Sukar is to change strings.
IMMEDIATELY.
I was very disappointed from my first contact and after the urging of a forum member, I changed the strings and the instrument really TRANSFORMED.
Everything is fine now with amazing sound.

Sukur Oud
Did your new Sukur Oud come with any type of polish on the soundboard or is is just bare wood? Just curious, I should be receiving mine in about 2
weeks Also, did you pay him via his son who lives in Turkey?
Thanks

I have send you a U2U message.
Unfortunately i can't assess the soundboard. I think that is not polish, but maybe i am wrong.
What I want to say that it is generally heavy instrument.
