I think the problem may be the price versus expectations of sound. With all the decoration on the sound-face, the vibrations of the soundface would
be expected to be dampened. So you're paying a large amount of money for intricate decoration, rather than for expected sound. Most of us don't buy
an instrument for decoration. I'd rather save the money, little by little, and buy an old Manol (my he rest in peace), plain, but made with
magnificent wood and magnificent skill and care, and sounding like the angels. Yes?

Postscript : On today's listing of ouds on Ebay, for LESS money than the ornate oud at $1,600 you can get a terrific Nazih Ghadban oud from one of our
forum members. Monsieur Ghadban's ouds are marvlous and wonderful - wonderfully made and wonderful sounding and worth every penny of the $1,400
price.

Hello Stefan
I agree to your opinion.
I have Fathi Amin of an inlay that is a little simpler than oud of eBay.
My Fathi Amin was made at the same time as Fathi Amin in eBay.
Fathi Amin made at this time uses the wood selected carefully.
I bought the oud by the name of Fathi Amin regardless of externals of oud.
I like the sound of my Fathi Amin very much. The sound is Amin Magic.
And, I have Nazih Ghadban. Of course, I like Nazih Ghadban very much.
I am enjoying the individuality of the sound that each oud has.
I am recommending it because I think that it is good oud.
Regards,
tsugumi

Tsugumi -You are expressing a VERY intelligent point, and I entirely respect it and agree with you. A great maker of ouds can make an instrument
sound wonderful no matter how much decoration it has. There is a very unique and individual preference for a particular sound. The ouds that Farid
used were certainly highly decorated and yet had great sound as well. Best of fortune, Stefan

There is another reason that nobody is bidding on that oud--the way it is listed in ebay. If you want to find ouds on ebay, you will generally enter
"oud" on the search engine. Go ahead and do it, and you will see that this item does not show up. That's because of the hyphen immediately following
it. So, most people looking for ouds will never find it.

To clarify, the hyphen following the word "oud" in the title.

The thing is, with ebay, what you put in the search bar has to be pretty exact. There is a trick that probably everybody knows, but I will say it
anyhow: just use the * after the root of the word. The * is like a wild card. So, say you are doing a search and want to cover: Greece, Greek,
Greeks. Rather than do 3 searches, you could just search for Gree*
Or, if you want oud, ouds, oudi, go oud*
You get a lot of useless results too, but you can find stuff that way that you would otherwise miss. So, for Gree*, you would also get Greenberg,
Greenland, and all that, so, that might not be a great example. Sometimes it works better than others: Turkey, Turkish, : just Turk*
Arab, Arabic, Arabia, Arabs just use Arab*
Probably most people already knew it, but I figured i would mention it.

Hello syrianoud
I contacted the seller.
The reply from the seller is the following.
"I'm sorry to inform you that the $2000 Fathi Amin oud has been sold.
I'm returning to Cairo in a few months so if you or your friends are interested in another - let me know!"
